SAT Test Week in Gainesville: A Nov 7 Checklist and the Dec 5 Decision NOVA Parents Need to Make

The November 7 Digital SAT is this Saturday. For families in Gainesville, Haymarket, Bristow and across Northern Virginia, this week isn't about cramming. It's about walking in calm, set up, and confident. Here's what to do now, plus one date most parents miss.

This week: the Nov 7 test-week checklist

  1. Finish Bluebook exam setup and get the admission ticket. College Board asks registered students to log in to the Bluebook app the week before test day to complete setup and get their admission ticket. Print it or email it to yourself.

  2. Charge and update the device. A fully charged laptop or tablet with Bluebook installed and updated, plus a charger in the bag.

  3. Pack the night before. Admission ticket, acceptable photo ID, device and charger, pencils or pens for scratch work, an approved calculator if your student prefers one to the built-in Desmos, and a snack and water for the break.

  4. One light review, not a new practice test. A short set of 10 to 15 questions in your student's strongest area keeps confidence high. Save full-length tests for after.

  5. Protect Module 1. Remind your student that the first module of each section matters most on the adaptive test. Slow down on "easy" questions and use the mark-for-review tool.

  6. Sleep and timing. A normal bedtime Thursday and Friday, breakfast Saturday, and leaving early for the test center.

Always confirm the ID and calculator rules on College Board's what to bring and do page.

The date most parents miss: Dec 5 registration closes Nov 20

December 5 is the last SAT of 2026, and for many seniors it's the last score that reaches colleges before regular-decision deadlines. Registration closes November 20 at 11:59 PM ET (late registration runs through November 24, and extra fees may apply).

Here's the catch: Nov 7 scores are typically released about two weeks after the test, so your student may be looking at their score right around the time the Dec 5 window closes. That leaves very little room to decide.

Our advice: talk it through this week.

  • Seniors with a target score in mind should consider registering for Dec 5 now as a backup. It's easier to cancel or change a registration (fees may apply) than to miss the window.

  • Juniors usually do better to skip Dec 5, wait for Nov 7 scores, and build a plan toward the March 6, 2027 SAT (registration deadline Feb 19).

Check the latest dates on the College Board dates page.

After Saturday: turn the score into a plan

When scores arrive, look at the score report by domain, not just the total. Two or three skills usually account for most lost points. That short list is where focused one-on-one work makes the biggest difference in the few weeks before Dec 5 or over the winter before March.
