How does it work?
Academic Coaching is when a tutor works with a student, helping to manage their assignments, deadlines and the process of completing assignments as well as preparation for major assessments. When executive functioning is a barrier, students can meet with an academic coach who will help them prioritize their assignments and discuss how to complete their assignments in the most efficient and effective way possible.
Typically a tutor schedules an initial meeting for about 45-60 minutes getting to know the student, what the expectations are for their classes and how the student currently does their schoolwork. The tutor then maps out a plan with the student, figuring out how the student prioritizes their work, organizes their assignments, uses their time, etc. the tutor figures how to continue to move in the forward direction for all classes. The number one goal is stay on target with assignments and help students understand how to manage their time appropriately, regardless of sports, work, family and more! This is not meant to be exhausting for the student, this is the necessary guidance and a safe place for students to discuss their school work and issues with assignments.
